This workbook is an accompaniment of the textbook of Great Wall Chinese: Essentials in Communication.
The goal of Great Wall Chinese is to develop learners' Chinese communicative competence. Different means of teaching, such as on-line and multimedia course wares, face-to-face teaching in class, textbooks and workbooks etc. are employed, and the management mode to monitor learners' progress and to test the learning effect is also used. Individualized learning plans with the backing of rich teaching resources are provided, so as to meet the needs of Chinese learning at any time, any place, and any level in China or overseas.
The courseware of Great Wall Chinese comprises two parts: the text and the exercises. And the exercises are divided into three sections: Communication Skills, Words and Expressions, and Grammar. This workbook is compiled to supplement on-line learning. Corresponding to the learning subject and goals of each unit in Great Wall Chinese: Essentials in Communication, we designed a variety of exercises in pronunciation, words and expressions, grammar, communication skills and Chinese characters in line with the principle of systematic and progressive learning. The exercises in this book feature a clear aim and varied forms with an emphasis on communication and practicality by focusing on basic language knowledge and skills. There is no new word in the exercises so that the learner can concentrate on the learning of the principal part of Great Wall Chinese. Doing the exercises will help the learner review and consolidate the language knowledge learned, thus achieving the goals set for Great Wall Chinese: Essentials in Communication.
Four stories run through the textbooks of Great Wall Chinese, which are Starting a Business, Love, a Legend, and the Contemporary Era. The topics cover economy, culture, sports, ethics, etc., by telling stories about several foreign students, Mike, Mary, Kim Tae-sung, Yamaguchi Kazuko, Faye, who came to China from different countries, and their Chinese friends, Zhang Yuanyuan, Zhao Yulan, Wang Yang, Li Dongsheng, etc. In order to facilitate the learners' understanding and make the learning more interesting, this workbook follows the topics and characters in the stories of the textbook, and some picture-based exercises are added.
