The Sunshine Chinese series is designed to help students learn Chinese language and culture in a meaningful context by means of stories. This book series, written in accordance with the syllabus of YCT (Youth Chinese Test), appears in 8 volumes with 6 units per book, and each level includes two books. Each book is accompanied by a Workbook and a Teachers’ Guidebook.
   
The central idea of Sunshine Chinese is to immerse young learners of Chinese into a series of interesting stories which carry rich Chinese culture. Each unit starts with a picture page which gives some brief clues of the story including context, background, people, and so on. It helps the kids to open their imagination and get ready for the story that will unfold in front of them. The real story starts from the second page and all conversations are written in Chinese characters with Pinyin for all of them.

The Workbook, attached to the Textbook, is designed with a rich variety of activities in accordance with the content of the textbook, with six to eight activities for each unit. Each activity is clearly defined by its type including coloring, singing, matching, and so on. The activities in each unit include practices of listening, reading, and sometimes writing with worksheets provided for each activity. The format allows the teacher to pick and choose the activities according to the students ‘need and time limit. To make learning more fun, at least one song for each unit is provided, with the lyrics from the text and melody easy and familiar.

The purpose of the Workbook is to provide teachers with more convenient teaching resources to make the teaching easier, happier and more fun.
