This is a book on discourse, studying the framework and structure of the discourse grammar of Chinese as a foreign language. It makes a systematic review of the discourse grammar studies outside China, discourse grammar of second language teaching in and outside China and ontological research on Chinese discourse grammar, puts forward the concept “discourse grammar of Chinese as a foreign language” for the first time, discusses its theoretical basis, and builds and explores its main content and research framework. The book is composed of parts such as “Morphology from a Discourse Perspective (including lexical cohesion and way of word organization, etc.), “Restraint of Discourse on Syntactic Items” and “Restraint of Discourse on the Entering of Sentence Patterns”. It is the first academic book on discourse grammar in China that is oriented at TCFL, showing both theoretical and application significance. 

Ms. Tian Ran is an associate professor and a postgraduate tutor in Beijing Language and Culture University, who is devoted to the discourse teaching and research of Chinese as a foreign language and has completed several relevant research projects sponsored by China’s Ministry of Education and Hanban. Ms. Tian’s works include the book Teaching of Elementary Reading and Writing: Methods and Techniques and more than 20 academic papers. She has received an “Excellent Teacher’s Reward” from Beijing Language and Culture University and has been to the United States, Mexico, Finland, South Korea and other countries to give lectures and train Chinese teachers.
