China Panorama: Intermediate Chinese is geared towards those students who have completed the China Panorama: Approaching Chinese course. This course is also suitable for those students who possess a vocabulary of approximately 1000 words.
China Panorama: Intermediate Chinese consists of 100 lessons and is divided into three volumes. Each lesson consists of four parts: a text, new vocabulary, notes on grammar and usage, and practice exercises. For the intermediate level student, all new words, notes and exercise directions are accompanied with English translations.
The contents of each lesson focus on topics concerning the overseas experience in China, whether it be living in, working in or sightseeing within China. Moreover, since all of the texts are composed of dialogue using conversational Chinese from everyday situations, the intermediate level student should find each lesson both practical and interesting.
Most of the new words, except some terms and idioms, are given with their parts of speech.
The notes on grammar and usage are based upon the language used in texts and provide a strong foundation when studied in conjunction with China Panorama: Approaching Chinese. In order to help students better understand and grasp complicated grammatical patterns, concrete examples of usage are used in the notes instead of complicated grammatical explanations.
The practice exercises focus on comprehension and repetition. Students should be able to master what they have learned through completing the numerous exercises found in each lesson.
The course books are provided with cassettes and video tapes for those who plan on teaching or studying this course outside classroom.
